Renault Retail Group (RRG) says more than 1,000 staff are striking today (14 March), although insists it is “business as usual” with “no violence” at its 4,000 dealerships across France.

Four of RRG’s main unions have walked out in a dispute concerning wage claims they maintain are valid against an improving French automotive backdrop.

The action appears mainly to consist of demonstrations outside dealerships by the CFE-CGC, CFDT, FO and CGT unions, which have coincided their action with Renault’s ‘portes ouvertes’ or open days, that provide a vehicle for special pushes until Sunday.

“Deliveries are not stopped at all,” an RRG spokeswoman told just-auto from Paris. “It is business as usual. It is mostly about demonstrations in front of dealerships – there is no violence.

“It is true the economy is coming back and the results also are coming back, but when you see the level in 2013, it was one of the historically lowest since 16 years.

“It is very difficult for salaries and negotiations. People are doing their best efforts within this difficult situation and the company has accepted to give exceptional profit sharing to each of the employees. It is EUR479 [US$666] per person – a one-off payment.”
