Ford chairman Bill Ford and CEO Mark Fields have criticised US President Donald Trump’s travel ban applying to a group of Middle Eastern countries. Donald Trump’s executive order issued on Friday bans travellers from seven Middle Eastern countries from entering the US for the next 90 days.

Some critics have said the ban discriminates against Muslims, but the Trump administration has claimed it enhances US security and lowers the risk of terrorism.

In a joint letter to employees the pair said the travel ban ‘goes against our values as a company’.

The statement from Bill Ford and Mark Fields reads: “Respect for all people is a core value of Ford Motor Company, and we are proud of the rich diversity of our company here at home and around the world. That is why we do not support this policy or any other that goes against our values as a company. We are not aware, to date, of any Ford employees directly affected by this policy. We will continue working to ensure the well-being of our employees by promoting the values of respect and inclusion in the workplace.”

The travel ban has been highly controversial and has provoked a number of protests and demonstrations at airports in the US.
