Ford has issued a report that details its prioritisation of safety during self-driving vehicle development. The company is aiming to deploy self-driving or autonomous vehicles by 2021 and the 44-page document titled 'A Matter of Trust' outlines the principles it is adopting in AV development as well as how the company is working closely with industry and government partners, and how it is applying the technology to solve the challenges our cities face.
Sherif Marakby, president and CEO of Ford Autonomous Vehicles LLC, sent a letter to US Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao to flag up the report.
The letter points out that many of the technologies needed for driverless vehicles are still in the early stages of development and that Ford is "working hard to understand the transformative potential of self-driving technology in order to best apply it to positively change the lives of our customers, the operation of our cities, and the economics of businesses large and small".
