Ford said it would become 'greener' by sharing more sustainability practices with suppliers worldwide.
The Partnership for A Cleaner Environment (PACE) has been expanded to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and waste as well as help make water and energy consumption more efficient.
A second group of suppliers last year were invited to join the voluntary programme, bringing the number of participating companies to 40 in two years. PACE now could involve 1,100 supplier sites in 40 countries.
Ethisphere Institute has named one of the world's most ethical companies for the eighth successive year.
PACE offers 'best practices' and monitoring tools to help suppliers track and achieve sustainability goals. In return, the suppliers report their environmental progress and share their own best practices. Suppliers are set to save an estimated 550 million gallons of water over the next five years, according to data collected in 2016.
Carbon emissions could be reduced by nearly 500,000 tonnes worldwide during the next five years.
