Ford's year-to-date sales in China have increased 7% from 2015 with 391,294 vehicles sold. In April, the automaker sold 82,324 vehicles, down 11% year on year.
Changan Ford Automobile (CAF), the passenger car joint venture, delivered year-to-date sales of 303,213, up 14% from last year. CAF sold 58,802 vehicles in April, a decrease of 11%.
SUVs continued to be popular with year-to-date sales of the Ecosport, Kuga, Edge, Explorer and Everest passing the 100,000 mark, up 27% year on year. The Escort car continues to be a top-seller with year-to-date sales of 84,835 vehicles up 69%.
Year-to-date sales for the CV JV, Jiangling Motors fell 10% to 82,471. April sales of 22,165 vehicles were down 7% compared to April 2015.
CAF 1 Chongqing Assembly plant, which produces the Ecosport, Focus and Mondeo, will take downtime during the remainder of the second quarter due to planned maintenance.
This downtime was reflected in the Ford Asia Pacific second quarter production volume of 345,000 units announced on 28 April.
