The daily production rate at Finnish contract vehicle assembler Valmet Automotive will go down from 153 cars to 132 cars by the end of the year, and will also lead to reduced need for the work force, the company said on Wednesday.

The 42 fixed-term work contracts will terminate at the end of November and the company has also begun negotiations to shed a further 80 employees.

Valemt pointed out that the new production rate of 132 units per day is still more than twice as much as it was a couple of years ago while the personnel count has also increased proportionately.

“In the summer and autumn demand ran quite high. Now the level has clearly changed,” vice chief executive Juhani Suvinen told local media.

Valmet Automotive’s factory is in Uusikaupunki on the southwest coast of Finland and employs 1,120 producing Porsche Boxster and Cayman models.
