DaimlerChysler of Venezuela has launched the Dodge Brisa, a re-badged Hyundai Accent, writes Rogério Louro.
The Brisa is made alongside the Accent at the Barcelona plant of MMC Automotriz, the Hyundai/Mitsubishi importer and assembler in Venezuela.
DaimlerChrysler expects the Brisa to increase its sales by giving it an entrant in Venezuela#;s “familiar cars” programme of locally-made cars with 1.3- to 1.6-litre engines that can be sold tax-free with special finance plans.
Last year “familiar cars” sales accounted for 66.4% of locally-made vehicles and 26.6% of total sales.
The Dodge Brisa has a 81bhp 1.3-litre 16-valve engine also used in the MMC Automotriz “familiar car” version of the Hyundai Accent.
Last year, the company sold 9,007 units of this version and it was Venezuela#;s fourth best-selling car.
