A Maserati spokeswoman has told just-auto.com that GranTurismo and GranCabrio production “will continue through to 2016”. Until now, it had been believed that production of the cars might cease prior to this.
This year and next are crucial for the ongoing expansion of Maserati production and sales. A goal of 75,000 vehicles per annum to be produced by the brand in 2018 has been set and is said to be on target for attainment.
The Levante will be the next additional vehicle, with this SUV due to enter production at Mirafiori in late 2015. After that comes the Alfieri. This sports car will be aimed at the Porsche Boxster and Cayman so there will be both hatchback (2016) and cabrio (2017) body styles.
A new GranTurismo follows in 2018, with a successor for the GranCabrio (GranTurismo Convertible in some countries) possible for 2019. The presumption is due to FCA’s May 2014 Investors’ Presentation only listing models until the end of 2018: no replacement for the GranCabrio appears on this document.
