The new truck will be launched countrywide in phases – it has already been launched in Maharashtra state and, by June or July, will be introduced in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.
The commercial vehicle segment in India is currently buoyant with lots of infrastructure development being undertaken. The movement of steel, cement and other raw materials coupled with low interest financing has resulted in a boom in the sector. Tata Motors, the market leader, sold 12,100 commercial vehicles in April 2004 compared with 7,034 units in April 2003. The total number of commercial vehicles sold in April was 19,867.
