In probably the first such exchange scheme in the world, where two-wheelers are traded in for cars, Maruti has initiated a pilot project for its cars, mainly the entry-level 800 and the Alto LX.
The waters are being tested through a few dealers who own both Maruti and a two-wheeler dealership. This way, the dealers can recondition the old two-wheelers and sell them through the two-wheeler channel.
Maruti will set up a company owned vehicle exchange centre where potential customers and owners of both cars and two-wheelers will have a variety of old and new car to chose from. Dealers will get a chance to display their reconditioned vehicles in the centres too. The first will open by Diwali this year, that’s a festival around November when many new purchases are made.
