Mahindra & Mahindra has entered the Latin American market through the opening up of an assembly unit in Uruguay.
The new plant will be assembling Mahindra vehicles from CKD units and will be supplying Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil and, later, Mexico, Chile and Peru.
Mahindra’s first model in the Latin American market will be the Cimarron 4×4, a double cab SUT based on the Indian market Bolero Double Cab. The model is powered by a 72.5 bhp, 2.5-litre diesel engine.
Mahindra has partnered with the Nordex Group, which has has world class assembly and painting facilities and extensive experience in the Uruguayan automobile industry, having produced more that 100,000 vehicles. The group is headed by Ernesto Soler – a prominent member of the Uruguayan automotive industry and a past president of the Uruguay Automobile Association.
