BMW is now offering its sequential manual gearbox (SMG) as an option for the 325i and 330i saloon and coupe models. SMG was first offered in the sporty M3 version in 1996.

BMW claims that the latest SMG ‘box can change up or down in 150 milliseconds, less time than a blink of the driver’s eye. Gears are electro-hydraulically ‘shifted by wire’ using the gear lever or steering wheel-mounted paddles.
