DPCA, the Dongfeng Motor and PSA joint venture, will build the Peugeot 301 at its forthcoming Wuhan 3 plant. Ground was broken on this 150,000/annum greenfield facility in 2011, with the first cars due off the line in late 2013.

Presently, the only factory making this, the twin of the Citroën C-Elysée, is Vigo in Spain. However, PSA recently stated that Agromash would begin SKD assembly of the 301 in Kazakhstan from June, alongside the 3008, 5008 and Partner.

The 301 will be an additional model for the Peugeot brand in China. The first generation C-Elysée, which uses a modified version of the Citroën ZX from the 1980s as its basis, is presently manufactured at Wuhan 1.

Speculation in the Chinese media has previously stated that the locally made M43 project cars will be powered by PSA’s 1.6 EC5 engine, which is an upgraded version of the TU5JP4 (this powers China’s current C-Elysée). A turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder will supposedly follow in 2014. Both the EC5 and 1.2 turbo would, media reports have claimed, be manufactured at DPCA’s engine plant in Xiangyang, Hubei. Wuhan 3 is in the same province.

Turkey was the first market for the Peugeot 301, a rival for the Dacia Logan. It went on sale there in November 2012. The car is also sold in Central and Eastern Europe, Greece, Russia, Ukraine, Chile, Mexico, the Middle East, and certain African markets.
