A spokesman for SEAT has told just-auto that Skoda Auto will build the next SEAT Toledo. The car will have its global debut in concept form at the Geneva show on 6 March.
The new Toledo, which, like the Skoda Superb, will be a five-door hatchback with the appearance of a four-door saloon, is due to be launched across Europe later in 2012. The current model is built by SEAT itself at its Martorell plant in Spain.
Skoda operates two production plants in the Czech Republic: the main one which is adjacent to its Mladá Boleslav headquarters, as well as another at Kvasiny.
The new Toledo seems most likely to be made at Mladá Boleslav, as there have been rumours which suggest that it and an additional model for Skoda will be built at this plant from later in 2012. The model names ‘Bohemia’, ‘Lauretta’ and ‘Felicia’ have been suggested as possible model names for the new Skoda, which should compete with the Chevrolet Cruze.
The Skoda VisionD, a five-door hatchback concept which premiered at the Geneva motor show in March 2011, was followed up by the MissionL concept at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2011. Each is thought to have previewed two bodystyles for this forthcoming model which would be closely related to the Toledo.
Although this remains speculative, the next Toledo might also eventually be built in China as well as the Czech Republic: the SEAT brand is about to be launched there.
