The 15,884 vehicles sold in June took Colombian car sales in the first half of 2006 to a record 86,489 units, according to statistician Econometria.
That was year on year growth of 32.1%.
Sales in June grew for the third month in a row even though the value of the Colombian relative to the US dollar is down about 15% so far this year.
Though car assemblers and importers have to pay more pesos for every dollar, their car prices have risen only an average of 5%. This is because steady tariff reductions on models imported from Mexico and Brazil have offset the currency effect.
In June Nissan launched the Renault Clio III platform-sharing Tiida, Mazda the 5 MPV (minivan), VW the Brazilian-built Cross Fox pseudo offroader and Ssangyong the monster Actyon.
