Volkswagen is launching discount Internet sales of its revised Passat range in Brazil this month, writes Rogerio Louro Alves.

The Passat sedan and Passat Variant station wagon cost between $US37,101 and $US56,817 at dealers but a discount of 10 percent is on offer for purchases via the Internet – or by phone.

“Passat buyers are sophisticated and they like to experiment with new ways to shop. And with the Internet and phone we can better co-ordinate importation and sales,” said José Santiago Soler, sales director of Volkswagen of Brazil.

Volkswagen expects to sell about 1,700 Passats in Brazil this year. Last year it sold 1,250 examples, all imported fully-assembled from Germany.
