Volkswagen Brasil will next week ship 1,311 of its locally-built, unique-to-Brazil Parati compact station wagons to Libya, writes Rogério Louro. The deal, worth $US7 million, is the first time the South American operation has exported vehicles to Libya.
Volkswagen do Brasil told just-auto that the Parati wagons will be used by the Libyan government as transport for needy families.
The Parati, the station wagon version of the Gol compact, is made in Volkswagen’s Taubaté plant, in São Paulo state and the version sold to Libya has a 1.6-litre petrol engine.
The model line, first launched in 1982, is now in its third generation and is exported to 20 countries.
