Renault do Brasil has invested $R800,000 (about $US300,000) to increase internet car sales, writes Rogério Louro.

The investment has included redesigning the website and enlarging the model range sold through it.

From October Renault will start to sell the Twingo and Kangoo on the internet.
Renault started internet sales in Brazil in July 2001 with a unique model called the Clio Yahoo, a Clio hatchback derivative co-branded with the internet company.

This model has been so successful the car maker has renewed the agreement with Yahoo Brasil for a second year.

“The Yahoo version accounts for 30% of Clio hatch sales in Brazil,” said Renault Mercosur e-commerce manager Guillaume Latte.

With the three models Renault expects to increase its Internet sales from 800 vehicles a month to 1,500.

“We plan that e-commerce will account for about 20 percent of our sales in the next few years”, said commercial vice-president, Renault do Brasil, Dominique Maciet.
