Brazilian produced 147,433 vehicles in June according to the Brazilian National Automakers Association (Anfavea). This was down 8.6% compared with the 161,245 units built in May, writes Rogério Louro.


Sales of 110,751 locally-made and imported vehicles were off 6.5% compared with May’s 118,404 units.


Brazil exported 36,378 vehicles in June, down 14.8% on the 42,695 units shipped in May.


First-half production of 887,785 vehicles was down 9.7% compared with the 983,181 units built in H1 2001 while sales of 719,069 were down 17.7% on the 874,223 vehicles sold in the previous year.


H1 2002 exports of 190,837 vehicles were down just 0.9% compared with the 192,593 units shipped in H1 2001.
