Toyota intends to sell 19,590 cars in Argentina this year, up 15% from 2005, helped by marketing efforts and product launches, media relations director Maria Paz Rodriguez Picaro told just-auto.

This year, Toyota hopes to expand sales by launching two new, as yet undisclosed sedan models in Argentina, its largest market in Latin America, where it competes head-to-head with arch-rival Volkswagen, Picaro added.

Last year, Toyota sold 17,035 cars, up from 12,990 in 2004, Picaro said.

In 2006, Toyota expects to produce over 65,000 cars in Argentina versus 46,162 churned out in 2005, Picaro added.

Toyota has a manufacturing plant in Ciudad Zarate, 80 kilometres (50 miles) north of the capital Buenos Aires, where it assembles the Hilux pickup truck and SW4 SUV models for both local and other Latin American markets.
