Toyota Motor Europe is eyeing a European target for 2006 of over one million in Toyota brand sales, the company has said. The company also hopes to sell 45,000 units of the Lexus brand.


In the first half of the year the carmaker achieved sales of 589,590 vehicles, a 10% rise on the same period a year before.


The Japanese company now controls 6% of the European market, a gain of 0.8 percentage points.


Toyota’s three biggest markets were mainly flat, with the UK, Germany and Italy all selling around 71,000 units each.


However, the company saw impressive gains in France, which grew 11% to around 52,000 units, and Russia, which leapt 41% to almost 44,000 vehicles.
