Dow says that the application of its adhesives in battery packs are helping to ensure the long-life of the packs and contributing to lighter weight in EVs.

Dow points out that battery packs for electric vehicle platforms consist of many different substrates. Assembling and sealing them is critical for temperature management, durability and reliable operation. It says its 'betaforce' structural bonding adhesives are specifically formulated to accommodate multi-material mix lightweight designs with the thermal management attributes necessary to ensure durability and long service life.

"Dow Automotive Systems has been a leader in bonding technologies for vehicle assembly for over 55 years," said Christophe Van Herreweghe, Marketing Manager – Body & Exteriors, Dow Automotive Systems. "It's natural that this expertise extends to solutions for the rapidly growing HEV and EV market."

Dow says a broad portfolio includes a range of benefits from 'high elongation to high modulus with the ability for heat acceleration and latency to address different process conditions'.

Working with OEMs, Tier 1s and battery manufacturers, Dow says it is sharing its proven technology with a 'fast-evolving market eager for reliable partners'.

Dow also is working on an organic, silicone-free, thermal-conductive gap-filling technology. This is currently in the customer evaluation stage with commercialization to be announced at a later date, it says.
