According to Associated Press (AP), Mazda senior manager Stephen Odell on Monday said the company will try to combat flat US sales with a new model range and increased representation at dealerships.

Odell reportedly said the company’s overall profits doubled in 2003, but North American sales remained flat between 2002 and 2003. He promised quick production of new vehicles, including a turbo-charged Miata [MX-5/Eunos Roadster] and a [lightly redesigned] 2005 Tribute small SUV this spring.

AP said that Odell revealed the MX Microsport concept roadster at the Detroit motor show and said it will be officially launched later this year – the vehicle is similar in style to the Pontiac Vibe [that GM developed and builds jointly with Toyota in California].
