Renault-Nissan rolled out its first Datsun “Go” sub-compact cars at its assembly plant in Chennai, India, earlier this week – in time for its market launch at the Delhi Motor Show.

More than three decades after it was withdrawn from global markets, the revived Datsun brand will make its market debut in India – with deliveries of the Go four-door five-seater model scheduled to begin later this month.

The Datsun-branded cars in India will be sold initially across the Nissan dealer network, but eventually a separate Datsun network will be rolled out. The Go is expected to retail at less than INR 40,000 (US$ 9,300).

Two other Datsun models will follow in the next two years, including a four-door saloon model.

After India, Nissan plans to roll out the Datsun brand in other global emerging markets, starting with Indonesia, South Africa and Russia later this year. The company has set a global sales target for the brand of 300,000 units per year by 2016.
