The Zest sedan and Bolt hatchback, two new small cars from Tata Motors, will be revealed at the Delhi motor show’s press preview day on 5 February.

Tata insists these new models do not replace the aged and similarly sized Indigo and Indica. The Zest and Bolt will be launched in the home market this year and will also both be exported. Their architecture is an evolution of the existing X1 platform.

Both new models will be offered with Tata’s Revotron 1.2T, a new turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine, while speed-sensitive power steering is a claimed segment first for these cars. There will also be a 90PS/200Nm diesel engine, and in conjunction with a five-speed automated manual gearbox which is being marketed as ‘F-Tronic’. The company has not stated why the diesel is only for the Zest.

As for infotainment and audio acoustics systems, these are supplied by Harman. In the home market, Tata Motors has linked with MapmyIndia for navigation and location based services.

“These cars have been engineered for global markets, through global teams across India, UK and Korea to set new standards in their respective segments,” an issued statement from Ranjit Yadav, Tata Motors’ president of Passenger Vehicles, reads.
