Chinese autonomous driving technology startup DeepRoute.ai this week announced that it had received a US$100 million investment from an unnamed local automaker, according to local reports, as the company steps up the mass rollout of its self-driving technology across the country. The Shenzhen-based firm had previously raised over US$300 million in a Series B funding round in 2021.
DeepRoute.ai claims to have developed an autonomous driving system capable of navigating through urban traffic, on par with Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system which is scheduled to be launched in China next year.
DeepRoute.ai launched the first model fitted with its self-driving technology in August of this year and currently has 20,000 vehicles in operation in major cities across China. The company’s CEO, Maxwell Zhou, said he aims to have its self-driving technology fitted in up to 200,000 vehicles in the country by the end of 2025, with ten new models expected to be added to its lineup – including a model under Geely and Mercedes-Benz’s jointly owned Smart brand.
