Daimler, which has just announced financial results records for full year 2016, said its Mercedes-Benz brand started 2017 with double-digit growth and a 47th consecutive record month for unit sales.
Last month, 178,467 vehicles were sold, up 18.3% year on year, and a record for January. Mercedes-Benz claimed to have been top premium brand in Germany, Switzerland, Portugal, Japan, US (our own sales analysis here) and Canada.
New M-B Cars marketing and sales chief Britta Seeger, who started on 1 January, said: "In 2017, we will introduce a number of new exciting products such as the new S-Class saloon, the new E-Class coupé and cabriolet and the new GLA that will inspire our customers even further."
Unit sales in Europe rose last month by 12.3% to record 61,670. German home market sales rose 14.2% to 18,017 units. There was also double-digit growth in the UK, Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden and Poland.
Asia-Pacific region volume rose 30.2% to 82,583 vehicles. China sales rose 39.3% to 58,799 cars, the first time over 50,000 sales were made there in one month. South Korea sales rose 47% to a record for January.
NAFTA region sales rose 6.4% to a record 30,001. US sales rose 3.5% to 25,527.
