Daimler expects NAFTA to continue, media reports said on Thursday (2 February).

Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche told Reuters Daimler expects the free trade agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada will continue under President Donald Trump.

"I believe that NAFTA will continue to exist," he said after Daimler reported record full-year results.

Zetsche also acknowleded details of the FTA may change.

Daimler makes almost a third of its revenue in the NAFTA region, Reuters noted. It plans to start producing compact cars in Mexico next year at a JV plant with Renault-Nissan. They are intended for worldwide sale.

Daimler increased its total unit sales in 2016 by 5% to around 3m vehicles, achieving its growth target. The Mercedes-Benz Cars and Vans divisions confirmed the forecasts made at the beginning of the year with significant growth (+10% and +12% respectively).
