Daimler has allocated the Mercedes-Benz GLC model to its Sindelfingen plant from 2022.

This, the automaker said, was a step to further increase flexibility at the plant.

"Therefore the global Mercedes-Benz production network is able to react even more flexibly to market demand," it said in a statement.

The GLC has been built at Bremen plant, 'mother plant' for the C-Class and GLC, since June 2015, at the Beijing Benz joint venture since October 2015 and, under contract, assembled by Valmet Automotive in Finland  since the beginning of 2017.

Sindelfingen has built the smaller GLA at its so called Innovation Factory since the start of 2018.

In 2014 plant management and the powerful works council agreed investment of EUR1.5bn which is being used for a new body-in-white shop and the Factory 56 assembly shop which Daimler said would be "digital, flexible, green".
