Volkswagen Czech unit Skoda Auto sold 75,790 vehicles in September, a record monthly performance.

The company told AFP that, in the nine months to September, its sales rose 12.8% to 568,990, reflecting a strong showing in Asia, with sales soaring 65% in China and 37% in India. The company last year managed a 1.4% gain despite the global economic crisis.

Winfried Vahland, a member of Skoda’s board of directors, said sales so far this year pointed to a 2010 performance “largely superior to that of 2009.”

Skoda last year sold 122,556 vehicles in China, an increase of 107% compared with 2008.
