VW Group’s Skoda subsidiary sold a record 522,500 cars in the first six months of the year and set a new monthly sales record in June with 94,500 deliveries.
It’s the first time the company has sold more than half-a-million vehicles in the first half of a year, said sales and marketing chief Werner Eichhorn. “This great result from the first six months makes us very optimistic for the second half of the year,” he said.
Sales in Western Europe of the Octavia – the company’s best-selling model – grew by 47.4% and globally by 7.5% to reach 194,800 units. Overall sales in the region grew by 17% to 217,900. Sales were also up by 27.6% to 28,600 units in central Europe but stayed relatively flat year-on-year in eastern Europe at 58,700 units.
First half sales in China increased 8.7 % to 130,700 units.
