Metaldyne is expanding further in eastern Europe with the acquisition of a factory in Zbysov, Czech Republic, close to the borders of Austria and Slovakia.

The company said the new location would be closely aligned with Metaldyne’s other plant in the country to support increased auto manufacturing in the area.

A number of car makers are now established in both the Czech Republic and neighbouring Slovakia including Skoda, Kia, Hyundai, Volkswagen and the Toyota-PSA joint venture.

Metaldyne’s president and CEO, Thomas Amato, said the company would focus first on expanding technolgy at the Zbysov plant to support growth in its forging and machining products.

Metaldyne uses cold and warm forging, as well as secondary machining operations, to manufacture differential side gears and pinions, hollowed transmission shafts, transmission sliding sleeves, drivetrain splined sleeves and other drivetrain components for OEMs and tier one suppliers.

Production at the newly acquired Zbysov plant is expected to begin by the end of the year.
