The Czech army is looking to buy 1,230 trucks from Tatra over the next five years. The first phase of the order is for 650 heavy vehicles worth 5.8 billion Czech crowns (USD 178 million) followed by 580 lighter trucks worth 1.7 billion Czech crowns (USD 52 million) in the second phase.

According to Czech Defence Minister Jaroslav Tvrdik, the vehicles will ‘ensure the army’s mobility and modernisation’. The Czech Republic is one of the newer members of NATO.

Under its new owner, US-based SDC International, more investment in new product lines is also planned.

Speaking at the Tatra exposition in the AUTOTEC fair in Brno, Czech Republic, Tatra board chairman Milota Srkal said that SDC International is ‘convinced that the investments will assist in a new prosperity at Tatra and Tatra will again be a renowned brand’.
