Sales of new passenger cars in the Czech Republic increased 6% year on year to 76,093 units in the first five months of 2012, led as usual, by local Volkswagen group unit Skoda Auto, which took a 31% share.

Car importers association (SDA) told news agency CTK Skoda sold 23,651 cars, Hyundai 6,661 and Volkswagen 6,463 units. Ford, Renault and Kia followed.

Skoda’s Octavia was the best-selling model, with 10,521 cars sold over the period. The automaker’s Fabia and Superb models were second and third.

Petrol engine cars took over 56% and diesels over 41%.
