Nissan and its Chinese market partner, Dongfeng Motor, have announced the completion of their second car plant at a site in Huadu.

The partners say they will build the Nissan Tiida five-door at Huadu 2, switching the car out of the existing Huadu 1 plant. The combined production capacity for the two facilities is to be 600,000 passenger cars in 2012, but this will rise to 670,000 units in the ‘mid term’.

The total investment in the combined plants is Yuan 5bn (US$786m), while the complex will have the largest annual production capacity of any global Nissan facility.

Dongfeng Nissan has used the announcement of the plant’s completion to reveal that it also intends to sell one million vehicles in 2012. To get there, two further Nissan models and two new Venucia cars will be launched. For 2011, the company is ahead of its target of 772,000 vehicles and on course for around 800,000 units.

The Dongfeng Nissan JV was established in 2003. It is for both passenger vehicles and light commercials. In its first year, 94,000 vehicles were sold. This is set to reach more than 1.15 million in 2011, the firm claims. The goal for 2012 is 1.35 million.
