Volkswagen has cut its prices in China in an effort to regain market share.


According to Reuters, Shanghai Volkswagen cut prices on several models by up to 11%. These include the Santana and Polo.


Shanghai Volkswagen is one of two major Volkswagen joint ventures in China. It sold 65,000 cars in the country in the first two months of 2007, up 41% on a year earlier.


GM, which also has a joint venture with Volkswagen’s partner in Shanghai, Shanghai Automotive, reportedly sold 67,500 cars in the same period.


Earlier this year GM cuts its prices by up to 10% on several key models, including the Chevrolet Lova and Aveo.
