A Volkswagen Group representative has told just-auto.com that the majority of its SAIC-VW and FAW-VW joint venture plants are back online.
Jörn Roggenbuck, a Wolfsburg-based spokesman for the company, notes that “22 out of 24 of our (joint-venture) plants have been up and running already for some weeks”. The two facilities which remain idle are Changsha and Urumqi.
Volkswagen Group China delivered 4.23 million vehicles last year, expanding its market share to 19.8 per cent, the total representing a year on year gain of 0.6 per cent in a declining market. That number includes both Hong Kong and 193,600 imported (mainly VW, Audi and Porsche) vehicles. The Volkswagen brand accounted for 3.16 million of the 4.23 Group vehicles sold in 2019.
