FAW-Volkswagen launched the Jetta in China this week, but has renamed it the Sagitar because it already builds an older (‘Mark Two’) model there under the Jetta nameplate.

The base price is RMB173,800 and had already received 9,000 orders for the car before its official launch.

The company said that the new model targets customers with strong personal ambitions who are successful in business and long for the latest European technology.

FAW-VW’s Weiming Soh said: “the launch of the Sagitar is part of FAW-Volkswagen’s new orientation towards the high-end car market.”

The Sagitar is the first of several new models that FAW-Volkswagen is planning to introduce in the near future as it targets private customers.
