According to the latest figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS),
China produced 1,979,700 motor vehicles in the first 11 months of 2000. This figure
was up 11.9 percent from the same period in 1999.

The January-November period saw a total of 558,400 cars produced, up 7.7 percent.

Also within the same period, China produced 794,400 trucks, a rise of 4.3 per
cent, and 524,600 buses, an increase of 38.9 percent, with motorcycle production
totalling 8,653,400, down by 4.6 percent. The country produced over 26.67 million
bicycles within January-November, a rise of 13.3 percent.
