China’s vehicle output surged 78.85% year-on-year to 1.36m units in September, according to the latest data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

China’s vehicle sales also hit a new monthly high of 1.33m in September, up 78% from a year earlier.
From January to September, China’s vehicle sales were up 34.2% on last year.
Passenger vehicle sales totalled 7.24m units during the first three quarters of 2009, up 42% year on year.
Growth was especially strong in passenger vehicles with engines of 1.6 litres or less – which have benefited from duty reductions; they took a 70% share of sales.
CAAM predicted that Chinese auto output and sales would exceed 12m units in 2009. However, some analysts question whether growth momentum will last very far into 2010.
Auto exports remained sluggish in September, but up from the previous month.
