China’s vehicle output surged 78.85% year-on-year to 1.36m units in September, according to the latest data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).


China’s vehicle sales also hit a new monthly high of 1.33m in September, up 78% from a year earlier.


From January to September, China’s vehicle sales were up 34.2% on last year.


Passenger vehicle sales totalled 7.24m units during the first three quarters of 2009, up 42% year on year.


Growth was especially strong in passenger vehicles with engines of 1.6 litres or less – which have benefited from duty reductions; they took a 70% share of sales.
