According to the sinoCast China transportation watch, Toyota will produce 60,000 to 70,000 Camry vehicles there in 2006 – seen as an aggressive move in the Chinese medium-sized car market segment.
It is scheduled to launch 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre Camrys in China and thus be a strong competitor with Honda and Nissan, Japanese rivals in the south.
The automaker held a line-off ceremony this week for the first locally-produced engines for the Chinese Camrys.
