Toyota has revealed plans to produce up to 70,000 new Camrys in China next year.

According to the sinoCast China transportation watch, Toyota will produce 60,000 to 70,000 Camry vehicles there in 2006 – seen as an aggressive move in the Chinese medium-sized car market segment.

It is scheduled to launch 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre Camrys in China and thus be a strong competitor with Honda and Nissan, Japanese rivals in the south.

The automaker held a line-off ceremony this week for the first locally-produced engines for the Chinese Camrys.
