Toyota vehicle sales in China rose 10.5% in September from a year earlier to around 86,400 vehicles, reflecting a recovery from earlier earthquake-related disruptions.

Toyota sold about 612,000 vehicles in the January-September period, up 5.2% from a year earlier, Takanori Yokoi, a Beijing-based spokesman for the company, told Dow Jones.

The growth in September vehicle sales was the third straight year-on-year rise for the Japanese automaker, providing further evidence that Toyota’s joint venture manufacturing plants are now back to normal, having recovered from the impact of the massive earthquake in Japan in March. The quake earlier this year crippled production at some key parts suppliers in Japan and caused parts shortages at the company’s plants in China and around the world.

Toyota’s sales rose 14.9% in August and 28.4% in July.

Yokoi said the company is “continuing to strive to meet its goal” of selling more than 900,000 cars in China this year. Toyota sold 846,000 cars in China in 2010.
