Toyota is considering building a new factory in Tianjin to raise capacity there, according to a Japanese news agency report.

Kyodo News reported that the under consideration plant could be expected to raise Toyota’s annual production capacity in China above 1m vehicles.

However, the construction of a new plant is subject to permission from the Chinese government.

The Japanese automaker already operates four factories in Tianjin, Changchun, Chengdu and Guangzhou, and has a total capacity of 920,000 vehicles a year.

Some analysts believe that the new plant could be a part of Toyota’s plan to introduce a new brand to focus on new energy vehicles in China.
