Toyota on Monday said it expected new models to help boost it to a 52% jump in car sales in China this year.

It aims to sell 278,000 vehicles in China in 2006, up from 183,000 last year, including imported and locally made models, a company executive told Reuters from Japan.

Sales in the first half increased 61% to 120,000 vehicles, as locally made new models such as the Reiz and Crown helped attract more customers, the report said.

Toyota recently began building and selling its mid-size Camry sedan in the country, having earlier commenced engine production for the car.

Reuters said Toyota would add the Yaris subcompact (Vitz in Japan) at a new factory in Guangzhou owned jointly with the Guangzhou Automotive Group, and the RAV4 crossover at a joint venture plant with FAW Group in Tianjin.
