Tesla Motors is reportedly considering teaming up with automakers in Chongqing – Chang’an Automobile and Lifan Group – to set up plants in China.

The company currently has two models available in the country priced at CNY852,500 (US$138,000) and CNY734,000, WantChinaTimes reported, citing National Business Daily.

Since Tesla’s battery charger does not meet China’s national standard, it is not on the list for exemption of vehicle purchase taxes for new energy vehicles.

An analyst said, if the company makes it to that list, it will save CNY70,000 to CNY80,000 on each car.
