New vehicle sales in mainland China increased by 10.3% to 1,648,902 units in August compared with 1,495,200 units sold in the same month of last year, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
The market was driven higher by an 11.0% increase in passenger car sales to 1,353,235 units, while commercial vehicle sales increased by 7.0% to 295,667 units.
Cumulative sales for the first eight months of the year were 11.8% higher at 13,947,647 units, with passenger car sales rising by 13.1% to 11,255,989 units and commercial vehicle sales up by 6.8% to 2,691,658 units.
