SAIC Motor plans to roll out 20,000 energy-efficient vehicles in Shanghai and the Yangtse River delta area by 2012 and unload a heavy truck business.

Xiao Guopu, vice president of the automaker’s parent company told Reuters the volume could rise to 50,000, but gave no timeframe.

Meanwhile, SAIC is in talks to sell Shanghai Huizhong’s heavy truck business to Weichai Power and the parent company of Sinotruck. “The talks are still ongoing,” Xiao said.
