Porsche will launch its new Panamera luxury sedan in China by the fourth quarter of 2009 after global launch the previous quarter, Porsche China confirmed.

Local general manager Helmut Broeker said the Panamera, the automaker’s first four-door car, would combine high-perfomance sports sedan and MPV characteristics to rival the BMW 7-series and Audi A8.

He hopes sales will match the Cayenne SUV in China.

The car is expected to have the Cayenne’s 4.8-litre V8 engine variants while a hybrid is also expected, again sharing drivetrain parts with the upcoming Cayenne Hybrid.

Porsche sold around 6,500 cars in China from January to October this year and sales are expected at 7,000 units for the full year, according to Broeker.
